On June 12th 2012 Guy Fieri of the Food Network and host of his show Diners, Drive -ins, and dives came to Anthonino's Taverna, to experience our delicious unique food and our warm neighborhood family feel! Guy experienced Anthonino's own hand made Toasted Ravioli, house marinara, Dolmathes and Greek yogurt tzatziki!
Anthonino's Taverna located at 2225 macklind, opened in 2003. Anthony and Rosario Scarato, brothers and owners of Anthonino’s put a lot into making sure every meal served, is exactly what customers want. Their father, Robert Scarato, a first generation Italian American also helps out to ensure a great eating experience. Bob, a St. Louis native, is at the restaurant everyday supporting his sons and saying hello to familiar faces. The way the restaurant operates is very family based, which lends to the overall Italian feel of the taverna.
Anthonino’s is proud to be located in the mostly Italian-American neighborhood known as The Hill. The Hill acquired its history during the late 19th Century when northern Italians and Sicilians immigrated and settled here. Anthonino’s property itself was built in 1939, and was used for the most part simply as a bar until the Scarato’s bought the building and transformed it into a warm neighborhood eatery. The heritage of the property remains very evident; in fact, the bar, hardwood floors and tin ceiling are all original and well preserved today. Although the history of a great area such as The Hill is very important, Anthonino’s is always adding new things to their menu and the restaurant itself to keep the public happy and hungry for more of their fantastic food!
At Anthonino’s we have created a relaxed, smoke-free, family-friendly, atmosphere with satisfying and delicious dining. Although our environment is easy-going, the meals we offer range from one-of-a-kind pizzas and burgers to incredibly decadent pasta dishes. Plus with our touch of Greek influence we offer something completely different than most restaurants you will dine at. Your surroundings and your food is our top priority. We use the freshest ingredients such as fresh wild caught fish as well as fresh lamb, beef and chicken. In addition, all menu items are prepared in house, and if not we get them prepared fresh locally. All of our pasta is fresh, egg and semolina heavy and NEVER dried which gives it a close proclamation to true Italian-style pasta. We also hand make our own ravioli!
